To whomever finds this letter in 2050,

Hi! Life in 2020 hasn’t really been great so far. Everyone’s been stuck inside for the past month or so due to the coronavirus. It’s not been fun, and everyone is getting a bit antsy being cooped up for a while. Some people believe that this will be the end of the world, but I whole heartedly disagree. From what I’ve seen, when people do end up interacting with one another, they’ve been kinder. The environment is also doing a bit better now that people are off the roads. A lot of people end up recovering from the virus, but because it can hurt the more vulnerable we stay inside. This is very important because it shows that unlike apocalypse movies, real people are far more empathetic and don’t rely on “survival of the fittest”.

I believe that in the future, this time will teach how important the Earth and the people around us are. The world is kind of a mess right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from our mistakes and do our part to help our climate and the world we live in. We should protect the planet we’ve been gifted, and take care of it as best as we can. I promise to walk and bike more places, conserve energy whenever possible, and research more ways I can help combat climate change from home. Maybe it’s the naivety of a fifteen year old, but I believe that if everyone works together to help preserve our Earth, then we can leave a beautiful planet for generations to enjoy. And that is a truly amazing thought to think about.

More Messages to the Future

Dear future family and friends,

This is our house.

Son,

Make the most of every day because remember yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift.

Dear Grandchildren,

I hope we can pass on a better place to live so that my grandchildren and their future children can enjoy the beauty of nature that our wonderful God has given us.

Dear My Future Child,

I want to sculpt a world for you where you can play outside without gas masks, an ocean to swim in without toxins, and a thick lively forest for you to wander.

My grandchildren,

I promise to do my very best to educate your parents as best I can.

Dear Elliot and Alana,

But being truthful, I know we are not yet on the path that will lead to the change that is needed; but it is visible.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to shop at more farmer’s markets.

Dear Future Today,

Here in California we’re starting to recognize our climate changing the natural world around us.

Filha,

Saiba que enquanto eu tiver vida, minha voz não calará para alertar o mal que estamos fazendo agora para as nossas gerações futuras…

To all the children of the future and those who love them,

While there is still breath in this body I will give of my soul and my time and energy to making the world a better place, for you, and all the beautiful living beings of this world.

Dear Jack,

Right now you are only a little over 5 weeks old, but you have truly changed my whole world. Your Mom and I always say that we thought we loved before you were born, but now that you have come into the world and we met you, our ability to love just expanded exponentially.

Dear child,

The journey of humanity does not take us to Mars like the world now likes to believe. It takes us home to our true self where there is no separate self. Where we are all one. You know all this. Look after yourself my child, look after your brother, your friends, your children, all the animals and the whole planet. Love them like there is no tomorrow.
