Anytime I’m at the crossroads of life, I pray that I, or anyone else in the same position, will keep you in mind, and try to shape a world that’s the best possible for you.

To the People in my Future Life,

Today, writing this, I am one month into my freshman year at college. In 2019, the world has come to a point where we all know how desperately we need to take action against the changing world around us. However, despite this we still have political figures refusing to do anything about it, or feeling any need to put pressure on businesses to stop what can only be described as a global crisis.

As I sit here, at the start of my life, having only just left the guidance of my hometown and being told exactly what my next steps should be, I am realizing just how carefully I have to move forward with my life. Up until now, the best way to help society was always painted as getting through high school and developing yourself in a field of study in college. However, I am now on my own, with true morals in question as to how to develop a career, and a life. The most desired field of engineering right now is chemical engineering, with plenty of perks to help pull more into the field. However the companies who desire these engineers are also the ones disregarding the health of our planet just to push a profit. I am going into a complicated field, and teaching myself in the ways of an engineer; but I truly hope I don’t do so while losing the value I hold toward our world, and our future.

I can’t promise I will be the one to turn the world around, but just thinking of a ruined future that I did nothing to stop, I feel obligated to never sit complacently. If I am doing anything I will try to remember how I will be shaping the future you have to live in. Anytime I’m at the crossroads of life, I pray that I, or anyone else in the same position, will keep you in mind, and try to shape a world that’s the best possible for you. I also I hope I don’t loose the passions of my younger, more inspired, heart: The desire to see the world, the desire to make the lives of everyone who knows me better, and my passion for the world.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

My climate action is to educate youth to create solutions for energy efficiency and conservation opportunities.

Dear Tomorrow,

The road I learned to ride my bike on, the field where I kicked my first soccer ball, and the park I ate my first ice cream cone at, could all be gone.

Dear Rowan and Anaka,

If we could talk, I would not be able to bear your gaze as you ask: How could you, the people in a position to change the course of climate change, fail to act?

To my grandchildren,

Ahora vivo en la ciudad de México y cuando debe de llover no llueve… cuando hace calor de verdad hace calor.

I pledge to take the bus.

Dear child,

The journey of humanity does not take us to Mars like the world now likes to believe. It takes us home to our true self where there is no separate self. Where we are all one. You know all this. Look after yourself my child, look after your brother, your friends, your children, all the animals and the whole planet. Love them like there is no tomorrow.

Dear Evan,

What has most inspired me to act is wanting to be able to look you in the eye and say, “When I became aware of the existential threat of climate change, I did all I could.”  Despite my pessimism, I act in the hope it can make a difference for future generations and all the precious life on our fragile planet.

dear tomorrow,

I hope that the state of the environment becomes a part of everyday discourse.

Dear Tomorrow,

We want to let others know about how to fight climate crisis.

Filha,

Saiba que enquanto eu tiver vida, minha voz não calará para alertar o mal que estamos fazendo agora para as nossas gerações futuras…

Dear Birds,

will continue championing land preservation and the restoration of woodland, prairie and wetland habitats. I will not stop advocating for “bird friendly” legislation to make cities safer for your passage.

To my darling ones,

And it’s not that I don’t care. I care deeply. For you three, and the families I hope you will have one day; for the many beautiful places I have had the privilege to know, places which take my breath away, that fill my heart with a bursting joy and connectedness to something so much greater than I, places I know may be quite different when you are my age
