I hope that you all can enjoy the Smokey Mountains in your lifetime too and that they look how they did back in 2017 when I saw them.

To the future generations,

Around the United States, there are many amazing creations of nature. The Great Smokey Mountain National Park is the most beautiful that I have seen so far. Getting to hike up mountains and to spend a week immersed with nature was a great experience. Everyone should be able to partake in this experience. This park—as with all of them—should be protected at all costs. It is important to have these green spaces incorporated into our lives.

Unfortunately, climate change can change all of this. As the temperature rises and the current climate changes, nature will be compromised. The current ecosystems that are existing, will not be able to survive through higher temperatures or different levels of precipitation. As the natural plant life dies off, the problems will only get worse and the temperatures will continue to rise even further. If it gets much worse, temperatures will not be able to support human life as well. You all are at risk. There needs to be change for the better.

I hope that by now, there are people that possess genuine care for the environment get put into power. As voters, we need to make sure that whoever is being elected has concern for how human-caused climate change is making an impact on the beautiful landscapes of the country. The relationship that humans have with nature should be harmonious. My hope for the future is that all of the future generations are continuing to work towards restoring this relationship.

My promise is to do what I can to raise awareness of the long-term effects of climate change. I want to set up this expectation to spread information for your generation and the ones that follow. Climate change is serious and there needs to be change as soon as possible.

I hope that you all can enjoy the Smokey Mountains in your lifetime too and that they look how they did back in 2017 when I saw them.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Future Me: Only open after March 4th, 2050

I don’t regret my past ventures, nor do I believe I will regret my future ventures, but I’ve learned that I’ve needed to manifest these experiences into actions of sustainable development and conservation and protection of our environment.

Dear Future Kids Like Me,

What I hope for future kids like me is that they continue to ride the groundswell of climate change support all the way into action.

To My Future Child(ren),

The fact that you are reading this means that you would know the answer to a question that has kept me up at night more often than I would like to admit: Did I make you proud?

Dear Amara and Uma,

Maybe you heard about bats? Bats, the carriers of this disease that spread among us like wild fire. I love bats. When I was your age today, sitting in the evening on the back terrace of your grandparent’s home in Ibiza, hundreds of bats would play, dance and sing among the trees.

Dear Nephew,

I believe i have truly played my part in raising awareness and practical solutions to climate change.

Dear Bella,

I promise that I shall continue to do all that is within my capabilities to leave you a world where there is fairness and justice.

My darling Cassidy,

I know I need to write this to you, and I don’t want to because it makes me so sad. I have been desperately avoiding my feelings about climate change, for many years, but especially and with greater intensity every year since you were born.

Dear Tomorrow,

The only way to survive it, even if you don’t feel like you’re winning, is to keep your hands on the rope.

Dear Tomorrow,

Don’t use plastic straws!

Dear Matthew, Sam, and Sophie,

There is a promise in the Bible: ‘I shall restore the years that the locusts have eaten’ and that points to a promise of complete healing and restoration. But until that comes I intend to do my best to ‘save the planet’ in whatever way I can, and I encourage you to do the same.

Dear Jamie and Jason,

My inspiration was the two of you. It started with thinking about the world you were inheriting and what your future was going to be like. But then you taught me how important it is to listen to you – to listen to young people.

Dear friend,

I will fight for this cause and I will never ever give up because we, the youngsters, are the hope.
