To the future generations,

Hello all, I am writing from the year 2019. Thankfully, we still have the pleasures of ice glaciers, snow, animals, fish, water, somewhat good air, and the many wonders of Earth’s gifts. However, all these amazing things are about to flourish before our very eyes.

There are people who are trying their best at this very moment to reverse this impact of climate change by doing small changes and even big changes. I cannot express how grateful I am for these people. I know how hard it is so change habits, but if there ever is a perfect time to do so, it is now.

On the contrary, there are also people out there who either still don’t believe in climate change or don’t want to try and change their everyday home habits. Who can blame them though? I used to also be guilty of saying “What’s the point of changing when other people aren’t changing as well?” or “Is this even necessary? Since no one else is doing it, I might as well not do it.” This is an example of a very bad mindset, and I have slowly learned that change starts from one person and you have to make the change in order for people around you to make the change as well. I do not have a social platform to help change in the macro sense, but I do want to start small and do what I can to save what we still have.

Moreover, I want to talk a little about how the Earth is like now, so I never forget. There is still a somewhat cold winter and winter is amazing. I always like to take a trip to places with snow so I can go sledding, skiing, snowboarding, etc. Although I have yet to master the skills to do those sports, I hope in the future I can bring my kids to see snow and do the things I did as a child. With the current warming of the Earth, I am not so sure snow will exist in the future. With the sea level rising, there may or may not be anymore beaches. It is hard to see life without beaches; the warm sand in between my toes and swimming in the ocean. I am also very concerned and disturbed with how animal extinction is also an issue at hand. There are also humans walking on this Earth who still hunt animals and kill them for fun even knowing that they are an endangered species at risk of extinction. There has been an increase in forest fires which are also killing many animals that inhabit there. Again, I want my kids and all the other future generations to be able to enjoy the presence of animals as I did.

The world is beautiful and amazing, but it is also cruel and evil. If we lose these beautiful wonders of Earth, I’m not really sure how the world will be like without snow, ice, beaches, animals, water, good air, and etc. I do not want to think about how the world would be like without these things and how Earth will be like in the future knowing we are the ones responsible for this. There really are no words for how delightful Earth is. There is no other planet like Earth, and I hope whoever is reading this in the future will also get to enjoy all the beautiful and amazing things Earth offers.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s keep this positivity even in dark times and hope for the best.

I’m sad and angry that collectively more has not been done to this date. And that still with such dire warnings, obvious impacts, those in power are acting far too slowly.

Dear Future Me: Only open after March 4th, 2050

I don’t regret my past ventures, nor do I believe I will regret my future ventures, but I’ve learned that I’ve needed to manifest these experiences into actions of sustainable development and conservation and protection of our environment.

I promise to reach out to more people to ditch driving and consider using public transportation. I promise to convince Marin markets that sensible policies in density and mixed use planning will further enhance everyone’s quality of life.

Dear Elliott,

We’re moving into uncertain times, and your dad and I worry. A lot. But you’re keeping us going. You’re pushing us to make better choices and not give up.

Dear Future Today,

Here in California we’re starting to recognize our climate changing the natural world around us.
