To My Wonderful Grandchildren,

First off, I just want to say that I love you all so very much. My life was not easy and I worked very hard to make sure I set a humble example for you all. I hope you all do the same for your children and grandchildren to come. As of right now, climate change is continuing to cause mistreatment within our environment, social and cultural barriers and political apprehension. However, in order to make change we must lead by example and realize that “We do not inherit this earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” We must show unselfish concern for the welfare of others. With that in mind, I have taken the initiative to do what I can to prevent environmental havoc on our future by having compassion for our home and taking the time to educate others on doing the same. I pray that you do the same for your children and encourage them to do better than we have. Many people will mock you, but standing up for the truth and what we believe in holds true value. Pay no mind to the ignorance of others because in the end, they will understand when it is too late. This earth is our home, so let’s keep it that way.

Most importantly, I hope you live in a world where science is taken seriously and fact is clearly distinguished from fiction.

For my children,

If we haven’t done enough and the world you’re living on is apocalyptic or if you’re living on another planet then I’m deeply sorry and just know that I believe in you and I know that you are both strong and smart enough to handle anything.

To the future generations,

I hope that you all can enjoy the Smokey Mountains in your lifetime too and that they look how they did back in 2017 when I saw them.

Dear me,

Remember how passionate you felt at 20, I hope you keep that passion in you and are still working on climate 30 years from now.

Dear Kids,

I know it’s long past time to wake up. You deserve a future in which drought, famine, and war are not all your children ever know; the choices my generation makes now will determine your future.

I promise to do my part. I promise to be the change I want to see in the world, and I hope that you, reader, will do the same.
