To my unborn children, hey it’s mummy Cris here!

My dearest lovelies,

I’m writing this message from year 2017. I hope we can read it together, enjoying the beauties of nature hopefully unpolluted. I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to write to you in this way and to send you this letter, still viewing the natural landscapes of mother heart and observing how people are treating her.

Since my childhood I have been respectful for the environment, I tried not to waste things, food, water and I was quite resolute in my food choice, for example by avoiding much industrial stuff, milk and by eating a lot of vegetables. I cannot explain why, but I always wanted to nourish myself in the most natural way possible. I loved to spend my time with animals, especially dogs, horses and rabbits, and I was really sad when your grand granny killed our chicken to have meat. I enjoyed staying out in the garden and I was off thinking of going to places in nature, the mountains, the seas and the woods. I was attracted to all the natural cosmetics, food, magazines and natural healing methods that I found. This is because I knew deeply that we are one with Mother Earth and we must respect her and all her creatures.

Please have a look how the Native American fought to protect their lands and follow their attitude. Be kind to each creature you meet and do not be afraid to show yourself taking care of the earth. Recycle everything you can, buy your food and your personal stuff with awareness. Give this awareness to your own children and lead them to be respectful for what is on earth.

I am witnessing climate change in a way that I do not like, and I do not know how can I stop it. I suffer every winter when I realize that the temperature is too hot, I am scared to not have enough water and I am concerned about the quality of food I am eating. But through my yoga education and my will to write I am making people conscious about their decisions. I am telling women to use reusable pads instead of tampons and to buy recycling goods and to reduce their plastic waste. I am telling them to go and buy in shops without packaging. I am suggesting avoiding chemical stuff for their cosmetics and to try the natural ones. I am telling people to trust their sensations and to have a look at their personal lifestyle and diet, to reduce milk and meat consumption and to use the bicycle more for short distances.

Because each of us matters and if each of us does our best we can really improve our environment!

This is my small contribution to your education, please take it with you and think of it every time you need to. Go to a lake and look at the sun, or at the moon waxing or waning, like me in the picture.

with much love,

your mum

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

I feel optimistic for you, tomorrow. I can feel a shift happening already.

Dear Ya’Ash,

There are many paths to Truth, but regardless of your faith or ideology, one truth is above all else: Life must continue.

Dear me,

Remember how passionate you felt at 20, I hope you keep that passion in you and are still working on climate 30 years from now.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to stop eating beef.

My darling Cassidy,

I know I need to write this to you, and I don’t want to because it makes me so sad. I have been desperately avoiding my feelings about climate change, for many years, but especially and with greater intensity every year since you were born.

Dear Finley,

I wonder if in 2050 we will be looking at a future where fear from the changes at hand has caused people to hate rather than love and provide hope. Perhaps in that world we will we no longer comprehend the biblical texts in a meaningful way. Will climate change be the end of the epoch of God?

Fe,

As one push of a button can set a spinner in motion, so too can the actions of one in creating a world that allows you to thrive, to giggle, to love.

My dear granddaughter Christy,

My own curiosity and knowing what a caring, aware young woman you are help me override despair.

Dear Grandchildren,

So here we are. In 2022 millions of people are suffering from the climate catastrophes, killing pollution and pandemic, not mentioning about poverty, gender and social injustice, racism, wars and dictatorships that can go on as long as bad people in power are allowed to grab our natural resources.

Dear Future Self,

More than getting through a global pandemic that has already taken hundreds of thousands of lives around the world, our true feat is even larger: to secure our long-term health and the health of the ecosystems upon which we depend for life. To do that, we have to cut our emissions in half in the next ten years, and continue to reduce it beyond that. And to succeed in that, we need to fundamentally shift the way we do EVERYTHING.

To my Maria and her children,

I have to tell you something: it is so hard to keep our life “green” for now, but we still keep trying.

Dear Ari and Levi,

Luckily, we have figured out ways to build things without making the air dirty, and we are trying very hard to get more people to switch over to this new way as fast as we can.
