To my lovely child,

Today is March 3rd 2017. Right now the time is 10:29 pm in Bangkok, Thailand. You already went to sleep in your dad’s arm.

You might ask why we were in Bangkok. After you were born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, your dad had his internship at UNICEF in Mongolia. We knew that Ulaanbaatar’s air pollution was bad, however, your dad learned more striking information from UNICEF, and when you were 6 months old, we moved out from Mongolia.

I’m sorry, my son, that I could not raise you in your home country. We could have stayed there to fight the pollution, but we love you so much and we decided that we could not stay there while the pollution was extremely dangerous to you. I wish I had the power to change the situation in Mongolia and we could move back there. However, I don’t have that power and I am still fighting the situation and sharing information with others about air pollution and climate change.

I am not sure how will be Mongolia in 2030 or 50. I might be still someone who just gets depressed about pollution and can’t do anything except sharing ideas or I might be someone who is eager fighter against it. Either way, I know I will be someone who fights for truth and correct things and who fights for the future and the children endlessly.

Now, I just want to tell you to always help people, always help the community and never be selfish. That makes you human and that saves humanity.

Love you very much always and forever,

Your mom

More Messages to the Future

Dear Seamus and Tuva,

So it’s 2050. If the good people are winning the greater struggle, fossil fuels are a shamefully long chapter of the past, and there has been a full scale awakening to the need for only renewable, clean energy.

Dear Students,

I imagine at this point we have dropped our addiction to coal, gas, and oil and that our environment has made a turn for the better with the solar, wind, and other unimagined (at this point) alternative energy choices are in place.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to ride a bike and take a smart train.

Dear residents of Bedminster, Bristol UK,

We hope we did enough

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to buy organic food and run more and bike more! (I could use the exercise.)

To my grandchildren,

Ahora vivo en la ciudad de México y cuando debe de llover no llueve… cuando hace calor de verdad hace calor.

Dear Tomorrow,

I’m not allowed to talk about climate change around family; as my mom warned me, “climate change is not something that people think about in Mississippi.” But I’m worried for my family’s future.

Dear Bella,

I promise that I shall continue to do all that is within my capabilities to leave you a world where there is fairness and justice.

Dear June and Colin,

I’m sad and angry that collectively more has not been done to this date. And that still with such dire warnings, obvious impacts, those in power are acting far too slowly.

Dear Tomorrow,

I will opt up to deep green
