To my Grandchildren and to future generations,

I am sitting here in my room of my apartment writing this letter to you in the year 2018 of March. A lot has been going on around myself and my peers in regards to the continuous change of attitudes, engagement and the overall change in lifestyle. Coming out of high school I chose to see the world in all of its tragedy and malevolence. These thoughts and attitudes festered inside of myself until I became bitter and intolerable to be around. It was not until I realized my mortality and the fleeting nature of life did I make a change in the way I went on about my life. It occurred to me that my generation including myself had an extremely towering task to overcome. Thanks to the generations before myself caring about nothing besides the current state of the world was paramount. But as noticeable negative change became more and more apparent in the environment.

Throughout history civilizations that are so fixated on one thing that everything else fades away tend to die out sooner than later. At this time the last great civilizations Ancient Rome which only lasted 500 years or so where at this time in History America is on the tail-end of the 240 years left if compared to Rome. So, what kind of world are we living in that all of the actions we do is for ourselves. I am sorry we are so desensitized about where the things come from and where things go. About how every action we do from the simplest to the most complex have accumulative or immediate repercussions.

I was born into this world the same as you thinking that everything is all sunshine and rainbows and nothing bad ever happens to good people. But as the world around me started to reveal itself to me, all I saw was vice and evil. I chose to see the bad, but I now see all these “evils” as opportunities for change. You see, the raw and nasty nature of the world we live in is a blessing in disguise, without them we would not be able to cherish the moments that take our breath away.

So to you my future kin, I work for you and the stability of the human race. So that when you grow old you can see a sunset or a sunrise. To be able to come into this world of suffering, and have the tools to decrease the suffering. We will be the change we seek into the world, we will live for not only ourselves and our families, but for our families to come. Because to save the world is to save us.

Live long, be true to yourself, and don’t let the bastards grind you down.

More Messages to the Future

To my Beloved Future Children,

Be fearless – do not be afraid to talk to each other and do not be afraid to fail.

To My Daughter and Future Grandchildren,

There are so many more things that we can do together to help our Earth from the damage that has been done, and I am so excited to teach you.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will convince my family to switch their gas appliances to electric.

Dear Abigail and Olivia,

What stories will you tell them about our generation? Will we be heroes or villains?

Dear Tripp,

I promise to do my part, supporting federal legislation to protect our earth while starting small with projects at home.

Dear future me,

If we don’t stop cutting down trees for agriculture and to build houses then the future generations will not think about trees when they hear the word Earth.

To the Future Generations,

I look at my baby niece today. The newest member of our family, just 3 days old. What will be left for her and her grandchildren?

My darlings, Juno & Vaeda,

You ask insightful questions, and together we learn about the mysterious world we inhabit.

Queridas filhas Ana Luísa e Ana Carla,

Que vocês possam contar para seus filhos e netos que minha geração tomou consciência de sua responsabilidade e assumiu sua condição de natureza e a ela se reintegrou, com inteligência, interação respeitosa e solidariedade.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to buy organic food and run more and bike more! (I could use the exercise.)

Filha,

Saiba que enquanto eu tiver vida, minha voz não calará para alertar o mal que estamos fazendo agora para as nossas gerações futuras…

Dear Leo,

Last week I took you to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline.
