To my future self,

In 2050, you are going to be 48 years old. I wonder what will have changed at this point. When writing this letter in 2020, everybody is talking about climatic change and what dramatic consequences it will have. Some say there is nothing like a climatic change and others are exaggerating the topic. But it is clear that something has to change. Maybe in 2050, people will notice that we have to stop talking and actually do something against climate change. But the problem is that nothing will change until something absolutely terrible happens. I don’t think a government or a big company would give up some of their wealth just to “save the environment“. So it’s a task for the younger generation. We have to change something because the company chairman probably won’t. And we have to be careful not to become a chairman only thinking about wealth. And I will be careful.

Greetings

More Messages to the Future

Queridos amigos sobrevivientes.

Quiero pensar que ustedes serán la diferencia, que tomaran más actos sobre el asunto y no dejaran que nada los detenga.

Dear Rowan and Anaka,

If we could talk, I would not be able to bear your gaze as you ask: How could you, the people in a position to change the course of climate change, fail to act?

To My Grandchildren,

It’s my hope that the following will be helpful as you navigate your futures.  These are the confessions of a climate activist:

Oh My Lovely Faizan,

I love you my son. You are waking up now. Hopefully tomorrow, more of us will, too.

Dear Lila

So today, my strong and spunky girl, I promise you this: I will stay vigilant and flexible. I will spread the word.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to sign up for 100% renewable energy.

AMORI MIEI EMMA DOMINGA E MAMMA AURELIE

Mamma e Papà cercano insieme sempre di darti il meglio però anche tu dovrai fare la tua parte nel mondo.

Dear Hannah, Harper and future baby of Ryan and Colleen Lane,

I will not stop fighting for a more sustainable future, your future.

To my Beloved Future Children,

Be fearless – do not be afraid to talk to each other and do not be afraid to fail.

Dear Nafia,

I also hope that your previous prayers have been answered. The way you wanted to create green jobs for your fellow city dwellers have been fulfilled already.

Dear Elliott,

We’re moving into uncertain times, and your dad and I worry. A lot. But you’re keeping us going. You’re pushing us to make better choices and not give up.

To my Kids,

I wish you all the best and always make sure that you can be proud of yourself and don’t need status-symbols for feeling nice.
