To My Children and My Future Grandchildren,

There is nothing that anyone can do to stop change. Change will happen. It is up to us to try to ensure that change happens for the better and not worse. We’ve made a lot of progress over the last 200 years in making the world a better place for most people but, while doing so, we have also done significant harm to our planet. People are an amazing race and, if we have the will, I believe we have the ingenuity and resources to fix the harm we’ve done. I want you all to live in a world at least as beautiful and bountiful and full of love as the one that I’ve been able to live in. So I promise you that I will do what little I can do to help us achieve that. I will make certain changes in the personal life (e.g., I will eat less meat, I will buy energy from companies supporting wind and solar energy). I will talk about climate change. I will reject people who are unwilling to make sacrifices today to help make your world a better place. I will vote and I will vote for people who care about our planet. I think of you always and I have hope.

Love, Trevor

More Messages to the Future

Dear child,

The journey of humanity does not take us to Mars like the world now likes to believe. It takes us home to our true self where there is no separate self. Where we are all one. You know all this. Look after yourself my child, look after your brother, your friends, your children, all the animals and the whole planet. Love them like there is no tomorrow.

Dear Makena,

Sweetie, you deserve clean air, water and soil. You deserve to thrive in an environment that supports you.

Dear Kids,

I know it’s long past time to wake up. You deserve a future in which drought, famine, and war are not all your children ever know; the choices my generation makes now will determine your future.

To My Future Children,

I hope by 2050, our society has taken initiative to be producing energy solely through renewable sources.

Dear Erica and Matthew,

I want you to be able to bring your kids to Tahoe and experience the same clarity that you had as a child.

Dear grandchild,

There is a place on this planet called the Amazon, and I don’t mean the online shopping site (is that still a thing in your time?).

Dear Finley,

I wonder if in 2050 we will be looking at a future where fear from the changes at hand has caused people to hate rather than love and provide hope. Perhaps in that world we will we no longer comprehend the biblical texts in a meaningful way. Will climate change be the end of the epoch of God?

We will look back on our time here and ask, “What did I do?”

If we truly live our present moment, maybe you’ll have a future.

Dear Kids of the Future,

My wish for all of you is that the people of the present wake up and are able to change their habits.

Dear fellow human,

May my tomorrow include more attention to these details so that you know that I do care.

To my dearest Gabriel,

What gives me hope is what is yet to come, what you will experience in your lifetime.

Annalu minha filha amada,

Espero de coração que, no futuro, você possa olhar para trás e se orgulhar muito dos pais que teve.
