To Future Descendants,

I am writing this to you because the world that I live in now is extremely divided, in a world where people do not trust each other and a world where environmental activists are silenced.

Those people on the wrong side have mututal interests and are threatening the very existence of the human race. Climate change is a serious issue, but in today’s world no one seems to be taking climate change seriously. I have witnessed ice melting at an increasing rate, I experienced weird weather patterns at multiple locations around the world and still too many people today ignore scientific facts and reality and stick to being ignorant.

I believe this letter would serve you as a reminder of the serious obstacles that we need to overcome. Past approaches have not been successful. We need to take a different approach towards fighting the elite group of corporations who are hindering our efforts to save the only great planet out there. We are trying to populate other planets for habitat but cannot seem to fix the planet we are in.

I write to you so that you can learn from our mistakes and ignorance and choose a different path for bringing action against climate change.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Earth,

I will keep the air clean so everyone can see the sunset.

My dearest children Ameilia and Alivia,

I want you to hear the whispers of the seasons changing. The rustling of leaves as they gracefully cascade down from their limbs in the fall, birds singing in spring, and frogs that serenade the summer night.

To My Future Child(ren),

The fact that you are reading this means that you would know the answer to a question that has kept me up at night more often than I would like to admit: Did I make you proud?

Dear Birds,

will continue championing land preservation and the restoration of woodland, prairie and wetland habitats. I will not stop advocating for “bird friendly” legislation to make cities safer for your passage.

Para minha querida filha, Vitória,

Consegue compreender que estamos aqui de passagem e que temos por obrigação apenas tomar emprestado, evitado excessos e principalmente agradecer.

Dear Rowan and Anaka,

If we could talk, I would not be able to bear your gaze as you ask: How could you, the people in a position to change the course of climate change, fail to act?

Dear Eleanor,

It seems silly to saddle yourself with guilt for something that hasn’t happened yet. I don’t want to do that. As of today, I don’t really feel guilty. I guess I just want to make sure I keep doing more, so that when you read this, and ask what I’ve done since then, I can still feel good about my efforts.

dear future children,

As I write this, our world is slowly giving way to climate change.

I pledge to use less plastic!

To my fellow adventurers,

Don’t stop looking for adventures.

To Annika, Anders, Stella, Eva, and Mickey,

In writing to you, I realize that I don’t want you to be hard on yourself if you choose to not make this your cause. But it is mine, so I hope that you hold me accountable to some of what I wrote here.

Dear Future Me,

I promise that I will change my behavior to benefit our trees.
