Minha querida filha

Minha querida filha… essa é a primeira carta que escrevo nesse site. Achei a ideia super interessante e talvez eu faça uma cartinha física também. Nos tempos de hoje, falam muito de mudanças climáticas. Sinceramente, eu acredito muito que elas aconteceram e acontecerão, e sou até meio acético quanto à reversibilidade desse fenômeno. O fato é que o ser humano não sabe fazer uso equilibrado dos recursos do nosso planeta. Aos poucos tudo está sendo consumido e destruído. Com isso tudo acontecendo, fico pensando como será no seu tempo… na verdade no nosso, pois espero estar vivo, com meus quase 70 anos de idade. Continuando.. estava agora mesmo lhe colocando pra dormir na rede, e ao lhe ver tão sapeca, esperta, linda… refleti sobre como deixar um mundo melhor pra você. Talvez a melhor forma seja lhe ensinando valores, mas as vezes me parece tão pouco. Como se seu pai fosse tão limitado. Como vou ser seu super-herói? Pois é, filhota.. minha Valentina.. quero que saiba que eu e sua mamãe estamos lhe dando todo o amor do mundo e fazendo todo o possível pra que você seja feliz no mundo de amanhã. Esperamos que em meio a toda essa mudança, o planeta ainda esteja bom o suficiente pra você aproveitar sua família, bem como você possa semear novas esperanças para os próximos que virão. Um beijo do seu paizão! Te amo!

To my beloved granddaughters, Margaret and Caroline,

Growing up in Germany, I often wondered what my parents had done to oppose the Nazi regime in the 1930’s that led to WWII. I was so disappointed when I found out how passive they had been. For me, this was formative.

To My Friends, Family and Future Grandchildren,

I realize my reflection of the past, current and future state of the environment paints a grim and pessimistic picture, but I feel optimistic in our ability to turn planet Earth’s fate around if we all work together and commit to making a change.
