Hola Cariño,

Two months ago I would have “labeled” myself as a concerned citizen to a world that does not belong to me. But today I call myself an Organizer, which is just starting to sink in. My desire is that my generation was able to stop greedy corporations and the human race from destroying the beautiful creation we inherited from our parents.

Today I fight for your rights to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and play in nature. I fight so that you do not grow up in an environmental justice community. I cannot wait to share stories of how the climate avengers aka Clean Power Lake County (CPLC) with you. How CPLC worked for environmental justice, our adventures in building a healthy, clean energy future for Waukegan and all of Lake County. Like the time CPLC members went to their first stockholders meeting, the time CPLC collected over 2,000 petitions from Waukegan residents asking for a transition task force, going to “CPLC headquarters.” I also hope to have many stories about how CPLC was able to collaborate with Mayor Motley, City Council, NRG CEO Mauricio Gutierrez, Delta Institute to transition Waukegan, IL from a coal community to a leading community of clean energy in the state of IL. Trust mama cuando te digo que ni en mil años pensé que iba estar en el 2016 trabajando “¡Para dejar un mundo mejor de él que hemos encontrado!” I recited those words for thirty days straight at “Jesus boot camp” (I’ll explain this crazy adventure another day). The point is that with the help of CPLC I truly believe that you will inherit a better world.

“Creation is not a property, which we can rule over at will; or, even less, is the property of only a few: Creation is a gift, it is a wonderful gift that God has given us, so that we care for it and we use it for the benefit of all, always with great respect and gratitude.” Pope Francis (Father Jorge Mario Bergoglio elected Pope in 2013) Pope Francis has been able to get the attention of the world, calling everyone to do their part to stop climate change. As you enter your teen years, I pray that you are able to discover your own reason for becoming an active catholic member like your mama found when she was a teenager. (Yes I was a teenage at one point) Life is not easier being a believer but I would not have picked another path. Thanks to my Faith I found my passion to work to stop climate change for your future.
