Hello World Here’s Your Ripple,

I don’t know anything about politics, I don’t hold vast knowledge on the environment (maybe little bits here and there), and I have no clue about the fate of the future. But, as far as I can tell it’s not the best outlook. Like most people, I can’t really see the thinning amounts of species, or the disappearing of forests, or the rising sea levels. I can only really hope that society wants to change for the better, not because of all these terrible events (of course that be nice) but just simply because it’s the right thing to do.

I do have goals for myself, one where I could climb out of this crazy circle of our consumerist society and just live. Obviously living has all sorts of meanings but as far as I’m concerned I just want to be okay and healthy. But when people are too afraid to even drink water with fear of being poisoned, is healthy even an option anymore? Did you know you can’t live off your land completely? Well, you can, you’ll just be arrested – at least that’s what I have heard. Maybe that doesn’t mean anything to anyone, but it’s sort of significant. Lately everything has been all about money. In fact, it seems like a good culprit for all these environmental issues.

It’s great that I can look toward the future and hope one day that I may have a family and that they turn out to be compassionate, loving, and understanding. Again, sadly, I have no idea about what the future holds for me or this earth. So again, I look back toward my goals and add another to the end of the list. I want to share what I have heard, seen, and learned. Although I may not be that activist marching the streets and creating petition after petition, I’ve had some pretty successful conversations with strangers at the supermarket. I like those little ripple effects, they seem to mean something.

So while I have been going all over with this letter, here’s what I actually hope for the future.

I hope that one day these letters will be obsolete and that none of these problems even make any sense to anyone. It’s sad that we even have to write letters about the crippling effects of climate change and the fall of so many environments.
