dear us,

We need to change. We have to recognize that our actions have consequences. It took a global pandemic for the Earth to heal, and it still is healing. We don’t care about people and we don’t care about the ground we stand on. Earth is living. It is sick. People rather focus on the economy than keeping people healthy and safe. I hope we remember the corporations that stood by their employees, and the corporations that looked at their employees as nothing greater than beings, who didn’t see the mom trying to provide for her two kids and the dad who just lost his wife and the kid who is the single provider for their family. I get it, life happens. But where is our humanity. Where is our love for each other. Where is our love for the world. We need to find ourselves and recognize what we’ve done to each other and what we’ve done to our earth. For the very being that gives us food and a place to live, we should take the best care of it. This Earth will not be here forever. You never realize the value of what you have, until it is gone. Love each other, and love our Earth.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Alba:

There is still a lot of beauty and I will do what I can to keep it from slipping away.

To My Fellow Two-Spirits,

Thank you — Thank you — without you, I would not hear butterflies singing, without you, I would not understand black bear humor, or the creativity of jays planning their breakfast, without you, I would not feel flora whispers of long-lived wisdom on the back of my neck while sitting in Padmasana.

Dear ACS, LG, CM, MCD, AH, MS, AS, GL, and ERD,

I commit to demanding that politicians that want my vote, my time, my substantial help and expertise are people who seek to address climate change seriously and talk about it boldly.

Dear Elliott,

We’re moving into uncertain times, and your dad and I worry. A lot. But you’re keeping us going. You’re pushing us to make better choices and not give up.

Dear Tomorrow,

My climate promise is to stop using electricity too much.

Dear Earth,

I will keep the air clean so everyone can see the sunset.

To my beloved granddaughters, Margaret and Caroline,

Growing up in Germany, I often wondered what my parents had done to oppose the Nazi regime in the 1930’s that led to WWII.  I was so disappointed when I found out how passive they had been. For me, this was formative.

Dear future generations,

I pledge to you now that I will work tirelessly and with all my willpower so you don’t have to live in a world where you have to worry about the next storm.

Dear… Parents,

Let us teach our children to volunteer and donate.

Dear Son,

I hope with effective action to combat this climate change will we have a better world in the future.

Dear people of The Future,

Thank you for reading. Do your part to save the globe.

To my sons,

I’m voting with climate change as a top priority. I’ve tried to teach you boys that we need to clean up after ourselves and take care of the earth. I promise to continue doing these actions and more, for your sake.
