Dear Tomorrow,

I grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was a great place to grow up because of its convenience to an abundance of natural wonders. The opportunity to catch big sport fish on lake Michigan, hike through acres of untouched land, and see an abundance of wildlife everywhere I’d look. I remember walking through the sand dunes and into the miles of protected forests. I have seen these things change within my lifetime, and thinking that the future generations won’t have this opportunity is horrible. Fishing on lakes have dramatically decreases, every time I am home I see a new section of forest completely destroyed and replaced with a mega-subdivision. On a larger scale, I look around this country and see people denying change that is happening before our eyes. The current stance on climate change as well as what we are doing to solve it are both very disappointing. I hope for the future that we are able to change the frame of thinking that has got us to this point. I hope we are able to make this change before it is too far gone. Amazing technology comes out every day, and it is exciting to think about the future tech that could revolutionize the world. Hopefully this technology will move toward a clean, productive, and more sustainable future. I hate to sound like the Lorax here (if you haven’t seen this movie see it immediately) but unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not. We are all responsible for this change, I just hope we all can realize it in time. And always remember, Save the bees, whales, oceans, rain forests, ozone, and all the things in between.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to switch from “light” to “deep” green.

To my great-great grandchildren,

I don’t know your name
or even if you’re alive,
but I’m doing all I can
to make sure you survive.

I’m your great- great grandmother
who lived a century ago
in a world far different
from the one you must know.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise composting in my house and getting an EV for my first car.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will convince my family to switch their gas appliances to electric.

Dear Kiya,

Fighting for a system that rewards care for people and planet over profit.

Dear Tomorrow

I promise to reduce my waste production

Dear me,

Remember how passionate you felt at 20, I hope you keep that passion in you and are still working on climate 30 years from now.

Dear future me,

If we don’t stop cutting down trees for agriculture and to build houses then the future generations will not think about trees when they hear the word Earth.

Dear grandkids,

I believe this fusion of ecology and economy backed by the digital technology is our great achievement.

Dear Beloved Children,

As time progresses, there is hope that value will be placed on all living organisms, including humans, plants, and animals. Life will move at a slower pace, and being on your own time and moving at your individual pace will be the typical way of life. I consider this way of life good living, and I hope that future generations will live on this earth as it was once intended to live in peace and harmony.

To the generation after mine,

But when you encounter that resistance–and you will, regularly–know that you must respond just how we have had to these past 50 years. With love, and sternness, and most of all, courage. Because that is what the resistance fears the most. We who came before you promise that we will do the same while we wait for you. Know that you will never be alone.

To my precious grandchildren, Emma, Maya, Maddie and Will,

With love and a great hope for the future, a future that will be healthy and sustainable for you, my precious grandchildren.
