Dear son or daughter,

The world we are in today is real nice, even though we are fighting to stop climate change. The conditions will get worse, but since we cannot feel the effects immediately, it is hard to get people to help out. Even though our future seems grim to environmental majors like myself, I have full belief that your life will be full of the same joys as mine. I believe we will figure out this complex problem, because there are too many people who do care for our planet. If this is not the case though, I want to say I am sorry for the tremendous amount I have contributed to the problem. I promise from here on forward that I will do the best I can to take care of the planet.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Evan,

What has most inspired me to act is wanting to be able to look you in the eye and say, “When I became aware of the existential threat of climate change, I did all I could.”  Despite my pessimism, I act in the hope it can make a difference for future generations and all the precious life on our fragile planet.

To my child,

For the pale blue dot we live on, a precious beauty, I try to help.

Dear Future Self,

More than getting through a global pandemic that has already taken hundreds of thousands of lives around the world, our true feat is even larger: to secure our long-term health and the health of the ecosystems upon which we depend for life. To do that, we have to cut our emissions in half in the next ten years, and continue to reduce it beyond that. And to succeed in that, we need to fundamentally shift the way we do EVERYTHING.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will use less fossil fuels.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to put in a rain catcher tank.

Minhas lindas,

As causas das mudanças no clima são tão profundas e envolvem tanta gente e tantos lugares.

Dear Alanna and Valeria,

I promise you to keep trying, to keep educating, to keep pushing our elected officials to act and protect your health now and in the future.

My darling girls,

I can be brave enough to wake up.

Jeremy M,

My promise is to work to protest carbon emissions.

To the wonderful children of our family – Elayna, Julianna, and James –

There is no issue more important to your future and your friends’ future than stemming climate change.

Hey kiddo,

I’ll be here to tell you all the ways I have fought for the health of our home, and fought to protect all of the wide, open spaces for you to run in. When you’re old enough, we can fight together.

My dearest children Ameilia and Alivia,

I want you to hear the whispers of the seasons changing. The rustling of leaves as they gracefully cascade down from their limbs in the fall, birds singing in spring, and frogs that serenade the summer night.
