The catastrophic wildfires that have affected California in 2018 are just the start of what our planet will witness. We have an administration that does not believe in the effects of climate change. I’m a student at San Jose State University taking a meteorology class that has taught me so much about my impact on our climate. I’m learning new ways to help reduce my carbon output and how to better the planet that I’ll be living on and my family will be living on for years to come.

More than getting through a global pandemic that has already taken hundreds of thousands of lives around the world, our true feat is even larger: to secure our long-term health and the health of the ecosystems upon which we depend for life. To do that, we have to cut our emissions in half in the next ten years, and continue to reduce it beyond that. And to succeed in that, we need to fundamentally shift the way we do EVERYTHING.
