I promise to put in my effort towards making my personal difference and also spreading the word about the importance of climate change. I am doing this for you because I want to see a better future. I hope you see a day where being sustainable is the new norm. If you have kids, I am doing this so they can grow up in a world where there isn’t fear of impending doom. I am doing this so you can enjoy your life to the fullest and be free of worry of when it could end. You want to be able to travel, be successful, and most of all, be happy. I will do everything I can to make a difference. It’s starting now and I hope you read this letter in 2050 and feel proud of the substantial changes that have been made in society.

But when you encounter that resistance–and you will, regularly–know that you must respond just how we have had to these past 50 years. With love, and sternness, and most of all, courage. Because that is what the resistance fears the most. We who came before you promise that we will do the same while we wait for you. Know that you will never be alone.

Right now I want to be hopeful. Right now I want to think that we took action to ensure this beautiful future for you.

I hope that the state of the environment becomes a part of everyday discourse.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will eat vegan, organic, locally grown, and seasonal.

People of tomorrow,

Your path will only be as clear tomorrow as we have made it for you today.

Dear future me,

I’m doing this work because I see it as the best way to save and improve as many lives as possible. I’m doing it so you, 2050 Ryan, can look at yourself in the mirror. And so you can tell your kids and grandkids someday that you did everything you could.
