Dear Mother,

I remember the first Christmas that wasn’t white. I think I knew by then that climate changes’ effects were happening around us and if we didn’t take actions soon it would be too late. I apologize for not speaking about climate change more often at our dinner table and with other family members too. I feel as if I have cheated them out of some knowledge that they may have found useful. I wish I had suggested we start using less plastic back when I was in high school but sadly I didn’t. Moving forward, I am looking to the positive actions I can take now. As you know I’ve always been interested in politics and advocacy, I’ve just never connected my advocacy back to the climate. That was a mistake. The promise I make to today is to commit to helping change our state’s infrastructure. I want to help craft policy to make out homes and buildings more energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. I know its a long road that will be filled with opposition but these are necessary actions. You have always inspired me to stand up for what I believe in and I appreciate your words of encouragement greatly. Thank you,
