Dear mom,

I hate that there is only one issue left concerning these people. Many solutions that are good for us Europeans are a huge problem for other people in developing countries.

That comes across as very selfish. I believe that if you want to change something, you should take care of the other people in the world. I believe that the way of tackling climate change in Germany good enough.

We do a lot of things, not all of them are practical and sometimes, I think they don’t take enough care for the people. They like to stop climate change, but some measures are expensive or simply stupid.

Often I think, for politicians, the international reputation of our country is more important than the people themselves.

More Messages to the Future

To the generation after mine,

But when you encounter that resistance–and you will, regularly–know that you must respond just how we have had to these past 50 years. With love, and sternness, and most of all, courage. Because that is what the resistance fears the most. We who came before you promise that we will do the same while we wait for you. Know that you will never be alone.

To the Future Generations,

I look at my baby niece today. The newest member of our family, just 3 days old. What will be left for her and her grandchildren?

Dear Grandchildren,

So here we are. In 2022 millions of people are suffering from the climate catastrophes, killing pollution and pandemic, not mentioning about poverty, gender and social injustice, racism, wars and dictatorships that can go on as long as bad people in power are allowed to grab our natural resources.

To my children,

I hope that the fervor that is building continues to build and spread and that the world has made progress to minimize the effects of our past actions.

Our Shared Promise

I will act today so you may have a healthy earth to live on.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to pick up trash at every beach I visit 🙂 and to bike for local errands.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to only use metal straws and reusable cups.

Hey kiddo,

I’ll be here to tell you all the ways I have fought for the health of our home, and fought to protect all of the wide, open spaces for you to run in. When you’re old enough, we can fight together.

Dear Leo,

Last week I took you to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Dear Tomorrow,

My climate promise is to stop using electricity too much.

To my dearest Gabriel,

What gives me hope is what is yet to come, what you will experience in your lifetime.

Dear loved ones in the future,

Even if it pains me to imagine how things are back home in Puerto Rico at the moment, I know things will flourish again. The land will heal, but we need to help it.
