Dear Me!

You made it! I am so proud of what you have become, I know that we do not give ourselves enough credit (hopefully that changes between now and then). It took a lot of perseverance to get to this point and I know I am struggling now so I cannot even imagine what you had to go through… but hey we made it and that is enough.

I hope you have learned to take a breath and simply exist, instead of always doing the most all the time. I know that up until this point I have missed out on so many in-the-moments little memories because of focusing on you and everyone else I care. I hope you have learned your limits and have perfected saying “not now” or better yet “no.” Spreading yourself way too thin and constantly trying to be there for everyone in your life is not sustainable. It is okay to be selfish and I hope we learned that as we enter adulthood (like for real for real). Being selfish does not necessarily mean that we are taking away or hurting our loved ones, it means that in order for us to take care of everyone else we have to be at 100% (or as close to it as we can that day).

Future goals that I hope to accomplish and make our life easier include eating healthier, I will have the finances to choose where I spend it, so local is better and less complex foods is key to a healthier us. Working-out semi-frequently will help our mental and physical healthy, plus it will help build relationships by surrounding ourselves with healthier individuals. Hopefully by then we will be driving our dream car, (Tesla right now). Recycling is a must and being cognizant of the products we buy for our home. Lots and lots of plants, I want an inside garden to match the energy of my outside garden! A couple animals to keep me company throughout the years would be a nice touch as well.

Career goals include working for an accounting firm that respects and values my contribution to the company. I also hope to become partner for this respectable firm because I know there is not a lot of people in the accounting field and there definitely is not a lot of diverse representation in the field. I hope to start a mentoring program that I can have outreach to local high school and colleges for people of color and other minority groups to help bring people into the field. Accounting is a steady job that pays well, is respectable, and can challenge people giving room for growth.

I was hesitant to do this little writing assignment, but when I read this in a couple years, I know I will greatly appreciate and value this moment, so thanks Prof. S! Anyways….
Much Love Baby Girl, talk to you soon

Now, with the help of Gen Z (and of course, people of all ages), we have the power to save our home, the Earth.
