This is a letter to the future us, our future grandchildren, and future great-grandchildren.

The last few generations have made a lot of mistakes in the care of our planet. Today, our family are writing to you, the future, to apologize for the harm that has been done. We hope that we are able to make big enough changes to lessen the impact that it will have for you. We pledge to be more diligent in our efforts to protect the environment and the creatures that live in it. We wish wholeheartedly that your generation makes wiser decisions than ours. There is only one planet Earth. Love it. Respect it. Take care of it.

My inspiration was the two of you. It started with thinking about the world you were inheriting and what your future was going to be like. But then you taught me how important it is to listen to you – to listen to young people.

I realize my reflection of the past, current and future state of the environment paints a grim and pessimistic picture, but I feel optimistic in our ability to turn planet Earth’s fate around if we all work together and commit to making a change.
