Dear Lucie,

This letter is for you, your future and the future of your children I hope to meet one day.

You have been fortunate to have been to many of the wonderful natural places this country and the world has in abundance. I want you and your children to have the same opportunity to experience the amazing landscapes, lakes, rivers, forests, mountains and the plants and animals that thrive there.

I want you and generations to come to be protected from toxic air, water, irresponsibly farmed food and dangerous products. I want you to live in a world that is smart about using its precious resources and resolute in battling the forces that contribute to our changing climate.

To that end, I promise to do what I can to contribute to these efforts. I promise to support local organizations like NYPIRG that have kept fracking out of beautiful upstate New York. I promise to support renewable energy starting with choosing wind power from my local utility and investing in solar panels for our home. I promise to ride my bicycle and much as I can and take mass transit when I can’t. I promise to reduce waste, recycle and compost our food waste at our local community garden. I promise to consume locally produced and organic food. I promise to continue to support to education for underserved communities as everyone should have the opportunity to participate in solving these complex problems.
