Dear Lucas,

Right now you are about my age, 45 years old. I hope the world you’re enjoying right now is still filled with the beautiful trees we used to walk under when you were a baby. Lit up by clear and beautiful blue prairie skies and sunsets so magnificent you still want to take pictures of them like you did at 16. Most of all, I hope you’re still able to meander with your loved ones in nature, like we always did. That is why I made the changes I did in my life. I hope they were enough. I love you and hope the world is kind, collaborative, and a lot less lonely that it was. I hope you not only enjoy nature for many years still, but the human experience found in it. Love always, Mom.

More Messages to the Future

Son,

Make the most of every day because remember yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift.

Anya,

All you can do is your best. You can encourage the same in others. You can admit your mistakes and those of your ancestors. You can learn from them, and help however you can. I’ll do the same. I promise.

Dear future me,

If we don’t stop cutting down trees for agriculture and to build houses then the future generations will not think about trees when they hear the word Earth.

Dear future me,

My hopes have always been to live in a brighter and better generation, where women are respected around the world, human rights are respected and last but not least where animals and mother nature is cared for by us individuals.

Dear grandchild,

There is a place on this planet called the Amazon, and I don’t mean the online shopping site (is that still a thing in your time?).

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to shop at more farmer’s markets.

Dear X—, Dear A—,

As with our struggles to eliminate police brutality, as with hate crimes, so it is with climate change – there are actually a lot of people out there who care.

Dear Jeremy,

We had a lot in common obviously, and our concern for the planet we live on was one of the many things we bonded over.

To Annika, Anders, Stella, Eva, and Mickey,

In writing to you, I realize that I don’t want you to be hard on yourself if you choose to not make this your cause. But it is mine, so I hope that you hold me accountable to some of what I wrote here.

Dear Tomorrow,

This is just the beginning. It’s the accrual of little seeds of change that will lead to the tree of revolution.

Dear Tomorrow,

I will encourage composting at work.

Olá Pessoal,

Com essas ideias simples e força de vontade, podemos tornar um mundo, um lugar melhor para se viver, com menos mortes, menos lixo, transforma-lo em um mundo diferente.
