Dear Leo,

Last week I took you to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline. You are 7.5 months old, and he who shall not be named was elected to be President. The ramifications of this decision are terrifying, and I am writing you to say that because of my love of nature, and duty to you to protect it for your future, I am saving water where possible by purchasing devices that help to limit water, eating a plant based diet as much as possible, and planning on installing solar panels when we move in two years. I promise to make choices for our family not out of convenience, but out of concern for our environment. I am also going to fight hard to protect moneyed interests from selfishly destroying our planet. I plan on camping with you in the woods when you get this note in 2050 sweet boy. I love you.

More Messages to the Future

Dear My Future Child,

I want to sculpt a world for you where you can play outside without gas masks, an ocean to swim in without toxins, and a thick lively forest for you to wander.

Olá minhas Florzinhas!!!

Minhas florzinhas é isso…. vamos a batalha , procurar se informar sobre empresas que são amigas do meio ambiente, tentar banir as empresas que poluem nosso ar, nossos rios.

To My Friends, Family and Future Grandchildren,

I realize my reflection of the past, current and future state of the environment paints a grim and pessimistic picture, but I feel optimistic in our ability to turn planet Earth’s fate around if we all work together and commit to making a change.

Dear future 82-year old me,

29 years later, I wish I still can ride bike and go some lovely places in nature. Sky is blue and air is fresh, I will be shining under the sun.

I pledge to take the bus.

Dear Grandchildren,

I hope we can pass on a better place to live so that my grandchildren and their future children can enjoy the beauty of nature that our wonderful God has given us.

Dear Daughter,

Tonight at bedtime, you asked, seemingly out of nowhere, “why are the glaciers disappearing?”

Dear Daughter,

I want you to be prepared for the world that the generations before you are creating for you. I love you Lucienne, and I will not give up. I will push you and teach you not to give up, either, even if others around you do.

Dear people of The Future,

Thank you for reading. Do your part to save the globe.

Dear People Of The Future,

It’s scary, this is the stuff you see in movies about the end of the world.

Dear Levon,

I hope, as your father, I’ve done enough to instill within you how science is a wonderful adventure.

Dear Alanna and Valeria,

I promise you to keep trying, to keep educating, to keep pushing our elected officials to act and protect your health now and in the future.
