Dear Helena,

I imagine that you should be fine in a world that you like to live in. At least, I hope so.

I have heard about climate change since primary school.  I always worry about climate change and want to do something about it. I am a person who loves the nature, animals and, above all, science. When people asked me when I was a child what I wanted to be when I grew up I always said: “I want to be a scientist, because I want to discover new things about this world.” Now in 2016, I am sixteen and I still want to be a scientist focusing on the environement. I am very worried about climate change because I know enough about this issue (I have seen a lot of documentaries and we have a lot of information at school) to have the notion that climate change has a lot of bad consequences for the human race. But I see this issue through a positive perspective and we have now technological development.  We can use this development to create systems and techniques to help us face the climate change and switch our energy sources.

I regularly use public transport. I rarely eat meat and in the future, I want my my job to help create systems, techniques or strategies to reverse this situation.

A barrier we face is that we don’t have time or disposition to think about how our daily decisions affect the environment.

I will do my best to do everything that I can to help, even to donate and take other actions that I can’t do now as a minor. In the next 5 years, I plan to recycle, and when I have a car, it will be electric.

I plan to have a career to help the planet earth get out of this situation. It won’t be easy because there is an economic emphasis of industry and technology over moral, ethical and spiritual issues. If we want people to care more about this situation and to take actions, we have to help humanity grow in a spiritual and moral way. Because, I believe that science and spirituality can coexist together; they need each other.

All my love,

Rita
