Dear Grandchildren,

What did I do when I knew about the existential threat caused by human activity impacting the climate? I became a vegetarian, I bought a hybrid car, I installed solar panels on my roof, I xeriscaped the front yard, and planted trees everywhere I could. I tried to eat locally.

I emailed legislators, governors and presidents. I petitioned politicians. I marched in protests and in climate strikes, I donated to environmental action networks. I talked to people I know and tried to persuade them to act. I raised awareness about divestment from fossil fuels. I did everything I knew to do to change what we are doing now so that you can live in a world that is full of beautiful plants and animals and that your life is happy and fulfilling because you have enough clean air, water, and food. I love you so much. I hope that it will be enough.
Love,
Grandma

The beauty and majesty of the world of your childhood is as remarkable as the beauty and majesty of mine, but the fragility of your childhood world is so much greater.

Dear Rosie,

But when you are reading this years from now, by the light of a solar powered lamp, know that your dad, mom and millions of others who burned brightly with love for our kids did what we could, when we knew the stakes.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to clean the earth.

To My Friends, Family and Future Grandchildren,

I realize my reflection of the past, current and future state of the environment paints a grim and pessimistic picture, but I feel optimistic in our ability to turn planet Earth’s fate around if we all work together and commit to making a change.

Queridos filhos Heloísa e Henzo,

Tenho muito orgulho da minha função (agente de fiscalização ambiental do Acre) pois é através dela que posso dar um pouco do meu suor, para que no futuro ambos possam ter um lugar melhor para viver.

Dear Spike, Loulou and Yoshua,

I’m going to start a campaign to try to convince everybody in the Netherlands to not eat meat one day a week.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to drive less and walk more.

Dear Tomorrow,

This is just the beginning. It’s the accrual of little seeds of change that will lead to the tree of revolution.
