Dear Grandchildren,

I am taking the time to write this message because I really want to make a positive impact in today’s climate change. I am currently living in one of the greatest period of time in the history of the world, I have everything that I need such as running water, electricity, food among other important commodities. It is the year 2018 and even though we have the greatest technology at our disposal, we are facing a serious problem global warming. Human activity is the main reason why temperatures are rising, weather patterns are changing, and many animals species are in dangerous of going extinct.

To solve this issue we must come up with alternate solutions such as relying in clean renewable energy solutions. We must stop using fossil fuels as the main source of electricity to power our homes. Fossil fuels must stay in the ground because that’s where they belong. Governments and the private sector must come together to solve this issue.

To make a positive contribution to this issue, I have decided to make public transportation my main source of transportation to school. In addition, I have decided to not be a typical American consumer, I don’t have to have the latest phone, the fastest laptop, the nicest cars, or the biggest house. My contributions might not sound impactful but I hope it will motivate others to do their part as well.

Grandchildren and to who ever is reading this, I want to apologize for leaving this planet in not so good conditions. I must confess that we could’ve done better, but greed and corruption from the governments and corporations of the world got on the way. I hope you don’t hate us because some of us tried our best to make a positive impact to this horrible reality: climate change.

Sincerely, Josue Gongora

More Messages to the Future

To my Children,

As you look through your window, I hope you will see a bright future. I hope you dream big, and that you have the courage, drive, and fortitude to do everything you can to achieve those dreams.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to live a car-free lifestyle.

My dear Honeys,

I think every parent believes that their child’s future is worth protecting – because I know the power of this force in me and what I am willing to do.

Our Shared Promise

I will act today so you may have a healthy earth to live on.

Dear grandchild,

There is a place on this planet called the Amazon, and I don’t mean the online shopping site (is that still a thing in your time?).

Dear Maret,

Right now I want to be hopeful. Right now I want to think that we took action to ensure this beautiful future for you.

Rachel and Noelle,

I hope in a small way this helps your world.

My Mini & Lou,

Since I first sat down with these words, a pandemic has erupted. Racial violence is reaching a fever pitch and protests are raging across the nation. It feels like the planet is succumbing to entropy, slipping further into chaos. But I write to you from a time of shifting tides.

To you, my dear!

In 2050, I will still be fighting against climate change. I feel that it’s not only my duty, but rather my destiny.

Queridas crianças do mundo inteiro,

Pedimos que vocês procurem fazer como nós e continuem essa luta de colaborar com nosso planeta: evitando o consumo exagerado, usando a tecnologia para o bem, plantando árvores, economizando água e poluindo menos.

Dear Tomorrow,

I will aim to lower my carbon footprint!

My darling Cassidy,

I know I need to write this to you, and I don’t want to because it makes me so sad. I have been desperately avoiding my feelings about climate change, for many years, but especially and with greater intensity every year since you were born.
