Dear Future Today,

It has come to my attention that our last few decades have been strenuous for Earth. Our current humanity is accelerating drastic changes that are abnormally dangerous for our existence. Our ideas of simplicity and peace have come to a great cost for our environment. We as people have been increasing climate change that will be obvious and visible to you during your lifetime. Right now as of 2018, not everyone wants to change their ways because it’s difficult to see the negative changes we’re causing. It’s more evident in other places around the world. Here in California we’re starting to recognize our climate changing the natural world around us. We’ve seen less and less rain each year that passes. We rarely get any snowfall on our local mountains. We’re starting to see more and more wildfires that have caused tremendous damage and high number of deaths as each year passes. It’s still difficult for people to connect all of those negative changes in our surroundings to the plastic that they use, the foods they eat and most importantly the changes they can make.

In order for me to see any change, I wanted to change a few things about my lifestyle as much as I’m able to. After learning more about where my food comes from and the process it takes for certain foods to get to my plate, I cut out all animal products and heavily processed foods from my diet over a year ago. Aside from sparing animals and bettering my health, it’s been a great way to reduce my carbon footprint. I love the environment and the nature around me. I love going on hikes to witness the aesthetic views of how nature works. Because of that, I hope you get to see the those things in your lifetime. I hope you don’t have to look at how nature used to be by looking at photos in a book. I hope you don’t need to wonder what snow looked like or felt like and that you don’t need to travel far to see and feel it today. I hope you don’t have to question what a glacier looked like and get to see one up close. I hope a lot of the wild animals still exist and that you get witness them in their natural habitat. And I hope you have great respectable leaders in this country and around the world that support to preserve today’s beauty for you to witness today and for your tomorrow.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to pick up trash at every beach I visit 🙂 and to bike for local errands.

To you, my dear!

In 2050, I will still be fighting against climate change. I feel that it’s not only my duty, but rather my destiny.

Dear Future Me,

I promise that I will change my behavior to benefit our trees.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to reach out to more people to ditch driving and consider using public transportation. I promise to convince Marin markets that sensible policies in density and mixed use planning will further enhance everyone’s quality of life.

Dear future loved ones,

As I sit here and write to you, I’d like to share with you something more horrifying than a few boos – our current home, Earth.

Dear Tomorrow,

My climate promise is to stop using electricity too much.

Dear Josh, LeeAnn, & Jessica,

I am very proud to know that You will treat Our Earth, Our Natural Gift, Our Playful Backyard with the same Awesome Respect that We give to each other, as a Family – Knowing that Our Earth, is Your Child Now.

I won’t leave my lights on.

Dear my future family,

I will promise to help climate change as much as I can.

Dear Students,

I imagine at this point we have dropped our addiction to coal, gas, and oil and that our environment has made a turn for the better with the solar, wind, and other unimagined (at this point) alternative energy choices are in place.

I promise to stop eating junk food.

Dear Seamus and Tuva,

So it’s 2050. If the good people are winning the greater struggle, fossil fuels are a shamefully long chapter of the past, and there has been a full scale awakening to the need for only renewable, clean energy.
