Dear Future Students, Citizens and Politicians,

I address this salutation to the three people I feel that this world hears the most because in reality students, citizens, and politicians have the most power and their voices are typically heard. Students are the future citizens, politicians, and leaders of this world and through this it is vital that classrooms from elementary schools to even post-secondary collegiate schools  stress the necessary change needed to help sustain this earth further if we want life to simply exist. Growing up in a home environment where everyday conservation was discussed and lectured from “ turn the lights off” before leaving a room to “oh didn’t know a ghost was watching television” I never knew the true severity that lied behind these small comments. Around 2012 I started to realize things on my own, November and December still having 68-70 degree weather, isn’t that winter? Then next came the drought one that aided catastrophic fires destroying lives and homes for thousands and thousands among Southern California and Northern California. Having friends and family lose everything they ever had, having friends and family evacuated from school campuses because the air quality was unsustainable. In the year of 2015 as a freshman at San Jose State I took a personal oath to cut away intake from beef as a way to decrease methane emissions, I also made an effort in my dorm, apartment, and sorority house that housed 58 women to be cautious of turning lights off, and unplugging any power strips, chargers, hair accessories, or laptop chargers while not in use at that direct moment to help conserve energy levels as well as gas therms. I did this effort as a student who happened to take a lower GE course that required we do a conservation project, as a senior in my final year I decided to take that upper GE course to see how far we have come along, and sadly that answer isn’t anywhere where I hoped it’d be. I want my children and future family members to live in a world where they can merely dwell and live. I dream of a world where no single human being could be over consumed by the illusion and naive concept that global warming doesn’t exist. I dream of a world where every CITIZEN and INDIVIDUAL no longer waits for another person to make changes. I dream of a world where we as a whole can come together and agree to make everyday changes whether it’s your food intake or energy conservation, where cars are purchased to help the environment, where people take it into their responsibility to be the change we so desperately want to have. I dream of a world where fires are not stripping the homes and lives of people, a world where droughts aren’t as catastrophic. I want those who come after me to live in a world where the air quality they breath in day in and day out doesn’t have negative effects aiding to the young average death age Americans have. I want the generations after me to exist because life and the opportunity that lies within every individual’s path is far too beautiful to never not experience. I hope that my changes have positively aided the world and global climate, and I hope that in the years to come I can see that myself. I change that you may have life one day, and I dream that these issues over the years decrease.

More Messages to the Future

Dear residents of Bedminster, Bristol UK,

We hope we did enough

My darling Cassidy,

I know I need to write this to you, and I don’t want to because it makes me so sad. I have been desperately avoiding my feelings about climate change, for many years, but especially and with greater intensity every year since you were born.

For a child I am yet to know,

We are fighting for a shared cause, inspired by our strong and unwavering dedication to preserve the beauty and wonder of our natural world for our children, our grandchildren and their children, and for countless generations to come.

Dear Society,

If we work together to spread the awareness of what is occurring today, we will be able to prevent it from continuing into the tomorrow.

Dear James,

More importantly, what are we doing to better our planet and everyone who lives in it?

Dear Hannah, Harper and future baby of Ryan and Colleen Lane,

I will not stop fighting for a more sustainable future, your future.

Dear child,

The journey of humanity does not take us to Mars like the world now likes to believe. It takes us home to our true self where there is no separate self. Where we are all one. You know all this. Look after yourself my child, look after your brother, your friends, your children, all the animals and the whole planet. Love them like there is no tomorrow.

Dear Grandchild,

I now feel less overwhelmed and powerless, and I am determined to fight for our planet and your future.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to eat less meat.

Dear Erica and Matthew,

I want you to be able to bring your kids to Tahoe and experience the same clarity that you had as a child.

Dear Future Sami Lee,

Everyone currently in life laughs and yells save the bees. We were a bee this year for Halloween and Lucy even came up with a great slogan “get with it honey”.

Dear AC,

I think a lot about where the right place to live is.
