Dear Future People,

I hope by now people have helped the world by taking some type of action to save it. I hope people have learned how to properly recycle and that oceans are not filled with plastic. I hope that turtles are saved because we successfully got rid of plastic straws. I hope animals are now able to swim in the oceans without all the plastic that has been there in the past. I hope plastic no longer exists because of how ugly it made our oceans, freeways, and our world look with it.

I hope you guys are now using biodegradable plastic in order to ensure your well-being as well as the well-being of the animals in the ocean. I hope that you were able to find out to sort biodegradable plastic so no confusion exists. I hope this biodegradable plastic exists everywhere such as in schools, businesses, and everywhere it was needed. I hope you guys are taking some type of action everyday to save the Earth. Whether that be reusing plastic, using biodegradable plastic, or using more public transportation. I hope that more public transportation is of use in the future, instead of having jammed packed freeways in where we are polluting the Earth and causing ourselves headaches. I hope we have better public transportation that is reliable and efficient for everywhere to use and access easily.

I hope that you have saved those animals species that were endangered and no longer have any species endangered because you have figured out ways to help them and yourselves. I hope that you are enjoying nature because you future people have found ways to make our world better rather than ignoring it as us and past people have. I also hope your government believes what scientists have to say about what will happen to Earth rather than misleading people and causing our planet to become worse. Overall, I hope you have figured out what we were to stubborn and careless to do in order to save our planet. I hope you guys forgive us for being so careless and leaving the world so contaminated with plastic.

More Messages to the Future

Dear tomorrow,

The blue sky will no longer be grey, and the bleak clouds will be vibrant.

To my beloved granddaughters, Margaret and Caroline,

Growing up in Germany, I often wondered what my parents had done to oppose the Nazi regime in the 1930’s that led to WWII.  I was so disappointed when I found out how passive they had been. For me, this was formative.

To the generation after mine,

But when you encounter that resistance–and you will, regularly–know that you must respond just how we have had to these past 50 years. With love, and sternness, and most of all, courage. Because that is what the resistance fears the most. We who came before you promise that we will do the same while we wait for you. Know that you will never be alone.

Dear Madeleine,

First of all I hope we succeeded in our dream that yours is a better world than the world of 2021. Today, the forests are burning, the sea levels are rising and wild weather is everywhere. But we are working hard and I’m confident we will succeed.

Dearest Gray,

When I asked you why the purple Violet called to you, you told me it was “magic”. I hope that you can still find the magic of life. I hope, despite everything, it is still in abundance.

Dear Darlings,

I commit to you to change one thing a year in our lifestyle to live more environmentally friendly.

Dear Matthew, Sam, and Sophie,

There is a promise in the Bible: ‘I shall restore the years that the locusts have eaten’ and that points to a promise of complete healing and restoration. But until that comes I intend to do my best to ‘save the planet’ in whatever way I can, and I encourage you to do the same.

Dear Ezmae,

As I write this, I consider giving up as it sometimes seems that all is lost. But then I think of you.

To the future generations,

I hope that you all can enjoy the Smokey Mountains in your lifetime too and that they look how they did back in 2017 when I saw them.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to ride more and drive less.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will do everything I can to help fight against climate change.

Dear Future,

I asked you, the future , to help us as well, to preserve our only planet that can give us life, that can let us watch anime, go to the beach, smell flowers, run through the meadow, listen to our songs, be in a concert, and let us live.
