Dear future me,

Dear myself, How are you? Do you have wet feet but miss the rain? Did you see some hurricanes? Do you miss your wintercoat? Did you make your trip to the NorthPole as planned when you were 20 years old? Maybe you’re already used to it …

If I want to read this message lying in my bed with my husband, close to each other because it’s cold and raining, I need to take action now. The message needs to be transmitted as well, which you did, I’m sure!  But now, I, and others, need to take action. My future husband is, I hope, doing the same. I hope he wants a green garden as well, rainy nights but dry feet.

Everything is a question mark…. we can’t predict everything but we can do everything to prevent the worst of happening.

Xxx,

Your 20 years old self,

How can I look at your bright eyes and light dance and tell you we are facing a war?

To My Fellow Two-Spirits,

Thank you — Thank you — without you, I would not hear butterflies singing, without you, I would not understand black bear humor, or the creativity of jays planning their breakfast, without you, I would not feel flora whispers of long-lived wisdom on the back of my neck while sitting in Padmasana.

To the future generations,

I hope that you all can enjoy the Smokey Mountains in your lifetime too and that they look how they did back in 2017 when I saw them.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to not waste food and eat locally grown food.

Dear Tomorrow,

And, if this summer has taught me anything, I am content (because I have to be) living in this limbo, this seemingly endless waiting for the opportunity to change, when really the opportunity exists within our very selves all along.

Dear Tomorrow,

I have solar and will be getting an electric car next week

To my daughters,

In order for you two be happy and healthy, we all need to work hard to prevent climate change.
