Dear Future Hannah,

Right now I have just finished up a class about environmental justice. The world at this point in time is at a very pivotal moment when it comes to environmental responsibility and protection.

Trump was elected President last fall and is making threats to cut the EPA, pull the United States out of the Paris Agreement and continuously refuses to acknowledge the legitimacy of climate change science. If he does not begin to make significant changes in his policy towards the environment, I fear that by the time you read this it may be too late to save ecosystems, refurbish biodiversity or replenish fresh water supply.

These concepts seem more and more real as I watch the death of the Great Barrier Reef and see as peoples are soon to be displaced because of rising ocean water levels destroying their lands.

I hope that by the time you read this the world is turning a more positive way. If it isn’t, I plead to you, as a last chance call to action, to get involved and push for significant change and reform. I fear that by the time you read this it will be too late, however I am hoping that you have already made your mark towards progress in social and environmental justice.

Please understand that today and every day that we sit by and do nothing, we are unconsciously contributing to the degradation of our surroundings. So please, continue the fight for justice and continue to push for educated policymakers.
