Dear Future Grandchildren,

By the time you read this, I am hopeful that the planet will be in a much healthier state, both physically and politically. Currently, the world is realizing quickly that if we don’t change our patterns of consumption and methods for production and waste management, you may not have a home to live in.

As a kid, I was fascinated with all sorts of plants and animals—I learned to value life and our living environment by interacting with our ecosystems and appreciating all sorts of beings and life forms. I later went on to study biology. I’ve discovered that the organisms we share this earth with are dwindling faster than ever recorded (besides mass extinctions of course). The extinction of species is becoming more normalized and is occurring at an accelerated rate. Sadly, this has a lot to do with the changing climate; organisms are not able to adjust to these harsher conditions and are forced into new environments and/or are being stripped of their current living space.

It is now up to us to save you and your generation from extinction. We’ve learned the hard way that our planet is a powerful force and should not be treated poorly. In these up and coming critical years, I hope to make and see significant strides in reducing climate change to foster a better home for you.

Dear Kids,

My mistake was thinking I needed to give you more to be a good Mom. Recently your aunt asked me what my favorite toy was growing up. I gulped, I didn’t have one- it was the outdoors, sliding down a ravine of leaves with my Dad, skiing and camping. Today is October 12th, 2021 and I am still going to be giving you a lot, it’s going to look a little different – love, experiences, education and a healthy planet.
