It’s never too late to make a difference. Our actions have very real consequences. We can educate ourselves, learn from our mistakes, and take action. We can hold companies like big oil and big plastic accountable for their negative impacts on the environment. We can educate ourselves and others about what causes climate change and what actions we as individuals can take to lower our carbon footprints.

Dear future generations,

My name is Baylee and I am a naturalist working in the environmental education field in the 2020s. I am dedicating my life and carer to making a difference in the world. I hope to leave behind some kind of legacy that inspires people to learn about the natural world, enjoy nature, and take action to preserve it.

Right now the future looks pretty bleak. Climate projections predict that by 2050 the planet will be hotter, dryer, and more unpredictable. Wildlife populations are declining at alarming rates, the forests are disappearing, and the world is drowning in plastic. Some people think that it is too late to turn this around. They say that my generation is the last hope for saving wildlife. People understand that the climate is changing but they refuse to believe that it is because of our actions as humans, and therefore there is nothing we can do about it. Those people are wrong.

We can stop buying single-use plastics and supporting companies who profit off of them. We can VOTE for people with a green platform to push environmentally friendly laws. We can make a difference, we just have to have the courage to try. Change is a hard thing to accept, but once we do, there isn’t anything we as humans can’t do.  We are the most intelligent species to ever walk on this planet. If we can accidentally destroy it, then we can intentionally fix it.

I hope the future generation who reads this letter is a product of the people who were brave enough to make a difference. I hope you’re living in a world that has learned to cohabitate with nature. I hope you are both thriving in a better world. That better world is what I am fighting for.

-Baylee

As time progresses, there is hope that value will be placed on all living organisms, including humans, plants, and animals. Life will move at a slower pace, and being on your own time and moving at your individual pace will be the typical way of life. I consider this way of life good living, and I hope that future generations will live on this earth as it was once intended to live in peace and harmony.

To the People in my Future Life,

Anytime I’m at the crossroads of life, I pray that I, or anyone else in the same position, will keep you in mind, and try to shape a world that’s the best possible for you.
