Dear friend,

Hi!! My name is Ana and I’m a 16 years old girl from Portugal.

In my country people still don’t realize the huge impact of climate change, which makes this fight a little bit harder. However, we are a country with people that don’t give up. I’ve been trying to explain to my friends and classmates about the importance of this subject, but they think it is a problem for adults. They are wrong. By the time that you are reading this, I’m going to be 30 or 50 years old and I will be an adult. Until then, I will fight for this cause and I will never ever give up because we, the youngsters, are the hope. We are the future. I actually want to graduate in environmental sciences and technologies so I can be an ecologist. But now the only thing I can do is to try to explain to people about our impact on the world and the causes of it. Unfortunately, I cannot be a volunteer because I am not 18 years old yet, so I’m learning everything I can about this issue in order to stay informed and to know how to take action. In my school I am the eco-delegate of my class. They even gave me this nickname “GreenAggressive” because I’m always talking about this issue and because sometimes I get really upset and disappointed with people that make fun of this situation. I hope that by the time you are reading this letter, this problem is resolved or almost resolved. If it isn’t, please don’t lose hope and never give up!

Remember: “words and ideas can change the world”! You have a voice so use it, make yourself heard and start the change! I believe in you.

Lots of love,
Ana, a girl with ideas from 2017
Porto, Portugal

Dear Gabriel,

When the worst consequences of climate change still feel far away today, or the barriers to acting on climate change seem steep today, I do not think about today. I think about you, and your world when you are my age.
