Dear Evie of 2050,

It’s 2019. Six months ago you and your mom visited my family for beach vacation and delicious artisan popsicles. It’s an interesting time to be alive — the world is in a perilous position because of global warming and the pressure is on each person to be part of changing how we live to preserve the future. I can feel the change happening — many people are working to transform the world. (You and your mom are two of them.)

My promise to you (and myself) is to continue challenging myself, to be a model of how to live a climate friendly life, and to talk about climate change in everyday conversations. Right now I’m taking steps towards a zero waste lifestyle — trying to sew cloth sandwich bags, buying a hybrid car, and taking reusable bags with me when I shop. I’m also planting a garden (and learning from the plants that don’t make it). I hope to learn these things for myself and then be able to help others as they too change their lifestyles.

As you read this, many years have passed. I hope that the humans of the world have made a safe transition to a sustainable lifestyle and preserved the ecosystems with their amazing bugs and animals (and anoles) that are fascinating you today.
