Dear daughters,

If this is the year 2050, and you are reading this, and you still live in hope, it will be because we read the signs of the heavens and heard the cry of the earth, and because we looked at your faces and imagined them grown and looking at us with judgment. I pray that I will be worthy to stand before you then.

When I was ordained I made a vow to offer no false hope, so I do not care to make any predictions. Neither do I  want to make any false promises, but here’s what I have thought to myself every night when I see you sleeping: I will always love you, and I will try to show you everything good that is worth saving in this world.

I will preach and teach wherever I am called about God’s love for this world so that we will save what we can. I will advocate and organize. I don’t know if any of it is enough now. But I hope that I can also teach you, and you will also believe, that it’s better to do whatever you good you can than give up.

Love,

Your Dad.

More Messages to the Future

To what we’ve overcome.

The first step would be in overcoming ourselves. Because whether we end up fading into obscurity, or thriving in prosperity, we will overcome ourselves.

Dear Maddie,

Please know that I have tried very hard to be one of those people, to even make the smallest of changes in order to improve the world for you and your future.

Dear Tomorrow,

I will opt up to deep green

Dear Alyssa,

I pray that more and more fathers will realize that to love their children well, they have to love and respect the ecological systems around them too.

To my Dad,

I hope on this Father’s Day, my 24th birthday, and the rest of days, we remember that the most basic part of life is living happy with the ones we love. Acting every day against climate change will allow us to keep that simple piece of humanity.

Dear loved ones in the future,

Even if it pains me to imagine how things are back home in Puerto Rico at the moment, I know things will flourish again. The land will heal, but we need to help it.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to drive less and walk more.

Dear Gabriel,

A message from co-founder Jill Kubit:
Writing letters to our kids about climate change is hard. It should be.

Dear Future Me: Only open after March 4th, 2050

I don’t regret my past ventures, nor do I believe I will regret my future ventures, but I’ve learned that I’ve needed to manifest these experiences into actions of sustainable development and conservation and protection of our environment.

To my Kids,

I wish you all the best and always make sure that you can be proud of yourself and don’t need status-symbols for feeling nice.

Dear Nieces and Nephews,

I tried.

Dear Emile and Eloise,

The beauty and majesty of the world of your childhood is as remarkable as the beauty and majesty of mine, but the fragility of your childhood world is so much greater.
