Dear cousins: Boran, Emma, Sophia, Almeen, and Noa

As I write this I am sitting in my dorm room a college freshman who cares deeply about our natural environment. For historical reference we are a week away from Joe Bidens Inauguration. I am majoring in sciences and sustainability with a minor in climate change studies. I think a lot about the environment and climate change. I am at a pivotal point in the realm of climate change. My generation has been handed a massive problem and we cannot hand it off to you guys because we are already feeling the affects. This past summer we had forest fires that left the west looking like a post apocalyptic waste land. With my studies I am committing to creating a greener planet for you, me, and every other species. My promise to you is that we can live in a world together where we can be surrounded by the beauty of nature and breath healthy air. You have all grown up in different environments and situations.

Boran, you faced adversity of the highest level at a very young age. When I first met you in America I was impressed by how loving and kind you are. I was also amazed by your knowledge, you could understand difficult topics and take on challenges with a growth mindset.

Emma, I can tell you have great potential, when we ran together I saw commitment and drive. I also see how passionate and caring you can be toward the people around you. These are life skills that will serve you well.

Sophia, when you are passionate about something you take time to understand it and everything about it. This skill will serve you well and allow you to create real change.

Noa and Almeen, at this point in time you are too young for me to see amazing character traits. I do know your parents and I know they will raise you to be great leaders in this world.

I promise to do my part to fight for a healthy earth for you guys to shape.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to stop using a plastic straw.

To My Children,

Is the world really polluted?

To my Children,

As you look through your window, I hope you will see a bright future. I hope you dream big, and that you have the courage, drive, and fortitude to do everything you can to achieve those dreams.

Greetings 2050 earthling,

Starting in 2015 I committed my life to sustainability.

Dear Rosie,

But when you are reading this years from now, by the light of a solar powered lamp, know that your dad, mom and millions of others who burned brightly with love for our kids did what we could, when we knew the stakes.

Dear Eleanor,

You are so small. So innocent. So beautiful. For you and for everyone else, I will try harder.

Caro me stesso,

Non so dove e con chi sarò nel 2050, spero che sia un anno migliore di quello appena passato .

Dear Owen and Vivian,

Here’s the biggest secret: I KNOW it will have. We may not realize how, but we have changed the world.

Dear Nafia,

I also hope that your previous prayers have been answered. The way you wanted to create green jobs for your fellow city dwellers have been fulfilled already.

dear me in 2030,

I am smelling burning plastic!

To the generation after mine,

But when you encounter that resistance–and you will, regularly–know that you must respond just how we have had to these past 50 years. With love, and sternness, and most of all, courage. Because that is what the resistance fears the most. We who came before you promise that we will do the same while we wait for you. Know that you will never be alone.

Dear Madeleine,

First of all I hope we succeeded in our dream that yours is a better world than the world of 2021. Today, the forests are burning, the sea levels are rising and wild weather is everywhere. But we are working hard and I’m confident we will succeed.
