Dear Brian & Amanda,

I love you both so much. You will now be the age I was when I wrote this, and I am either elderly or gone. I am so heartbroken that your mid-life is marked by drought, severe storms, flooding, sea level rise, military conflict and that the economy is now overwhelmed financially by loss of agriculture, shipping ports, airports, roads & train tracks, as well as coastal cities.

I hope you haven’t been victims of violence or martial law as society became desperate and government supports collapsed. I hope I have had the courage to dissuade you from having children, as I have known for a long time that this will be your fate, and did not want you to worry about your children’s future the way I have for you two. I hope my years efforts to ban fracking has helped protect your drinking water.

I never gave up on you and have no regrets. I hope my time away from you, volunteering to get local ordinances and laws passed, has succeeded in protecting at least our home state. I hope there is happiness in your life and our family is together.

Love, Mom

More Messages to the Future

Queridos amigos sobrevivientes.

Quiero pensar que ustedes serán la diferencia, que tomaran más actos sobre el asunto y no dejaran que nada los detenga.

Dear Victoria, sugar pie honey bunch, chiquita loquita,

How can I look at your bright eyes and light dance and tell you we are facing a war?

Dear Eleanor,

It seems silly to saddle yourself with guilt for something that hasn’t happened yet. I don’t want to do that. As of today, I don’t really feel guilty. I guess I just want to make sure I keep doing more, so that when you read this, and ask what I’ve done since then, I can still feel good about my efforts.

Dear fantastic,

We as the human race are smarter than this struggle at hand and need to rise above large corporate interests and confusion on this topic.

Dear humankind of today and tomorrow,

I do wish to contribute as much as I can, maybe even start a ripple effect, where other people will start taking action too and inspire other people too.

Anya,

All you can do is your best. You can encourage the same in others. You can admit your mistakes and those of your ancestors. You can learn from them, and help however you can. I’ll do the same. I promise.

Dear Nieces and Nephews,

I tried.

Fe,

As one push of a button can set a spinner in motion, so too can the actions of one in creating a world that allows you to thrive, to giggle, to love.

Dear residents of Bedminster, Bristol UK,

We hope we did enough

To what we’ve overcome.

The first step would be in overcoming ourselves. Because whether we end up fading into obscurity, or thriving in prosperity, we will overcome ourselves.

To my Children,

As you look through your window, I hope you will see a bright future. I hope you dream big, and that you have the courage, drive, and fortitude to do everything you can to achieve those dreams.
