There is still a lot of beauty and I will do what I can to keep it from slipping away.

Dear Alba:

It pains me to think of the beauty that will be gone before you ever see it, and even more to think that much of it is already gone. This week they reported that all the white oaks in our neighborhood are dying. There were parakeets in these mountains, and red wolfs, passenger pigeons, and giant chestnuts dominating the landscape. I once swam in a barrier reef with sea turtles and corals and massive fish, and that place may be gone before you are grown.

For you, I promise to keep taking you outside and to teach you to appreciate and protect what lives. There is still a lot of beauty and I will do what I can to keep it from slipping away.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Erica and Matthew,

I want you to be able to bring your kids to Tahoe and experience the same clarity that you had as a child.

Dear Grandchildren,

So here we are. In 2022 millions of people are suffering from the climate catastrophes, killing pollution and pandemic, not mentioning about poverty, gender and social injustice, racism, wars and dictatorships that can go on as long as bad people in power are allowed to grab our natural resources.

My Dear Grandchildren,

In writing this letter to you, I am searching for ways to make my connection and commitment to you more present in my current experience

Dear future niece or nephew,

We loved hiking, camping, biking, swimming and playing as kids together.

My darlings, Juno & Vaeda,

You ask insightful questions, and together we learn about the mysterious world we inhabit.

Dear child,

The journey of humanity does not take us to Mars like the world now likes to believe. It takes us home to our true self where there is no separate self. Where we are all one. You know all this. Look after yourself my child, look after your brother, your friends, your children, all the animals and the whole planet. Love them like there is no tomorrow.

I pledge to use less plastic!

Dear future me,

I am 19 years old, and I am angry.

Dear Tomorrow,

Awareness is key. Learning about this issue can seem like a small effort compared to other actions, but it’s the most important.

Dear future child,

We’re presenting at conferences, writing articles, and organizing events with the goal of mobilizing our profession to act on climate, and to help them understand that it will deeply impact our mission to preserve history for future generations.

Dear Students,

My act of love will be to use all the power I have, during the rest of my life, to stop climate change.

To My Future Nephews,

I want you to see those corn fields in the north, the beautiful beaches down in Florida, and the stars in the woods at night.
