A reminder to myself,

I’m 19, in my first year of uniĀ and currently in my flat at Sheffield University. I just wanted to make sure you’re still good, moral and understand what responsibility you have.

Earlier this weekĀ I was thinking about what the purpose of my life is and came to the sort of conclusion:Ā I think the purpose is to lead the most interesting and most crazy life possible. Travel the world, see the wonders of the world, do extreme sports, study and learn, have children. Anything really, as long as its making me as happy as I can be. The second part is that I have to be good. I have to care. I have to look beyond my little selfish world and make decisions based on how it will affect everything around me. Not everyone does this, so if you can, have the amount of goodness in your heart that two-three people should have combined.

Whatever is going on in your life right now?Ā I hope you’re still doing that. If not, why not? Is your reason really that good that is defends your actions and all its consequences? Look back at how you felt these years that I have lived now. Really try to remember all those feelings that would well up in you every time you saw or thought of all our moral obligations to animals, the world and our friends etc.

I’m vegan, hardly materialistic and trying to improve my carbon footprint.Ā I hope you are too.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Kids,

My mistake was thinking I needed to give you more to be a good Mom. Recently your aunt asked me what my favorite toy was growing up. I gulped, I didn’t have one- it was the outdoors, sliding down a ravine of leaves with my Dad, skiing and camping. Today is October 12th, 2021 and I am still going to be giving you a lot, it’s going to look a little different – love, experiences, education and a healthy planet.

Future Message to Earth,

Hope there will be no more droughts,
And no more pollution with which we fought,
Regarding every human should be taught,
Ensuring that we uniformly follow these thoughts.

Dear my future loved ones,

I hope that humans can live harmoniously with the earth.

Dear Future,

I hope that things have cooled down. I hope that people and governments have come together to save our earth. I hope that everyone is able to breath clean air, drink clean water and see the beauty in nature that I do. I promise to do my best to take part in repairing the damage we’ve done so that my hopes may come true.

For my most dear and only daughter,

And I know life more fully because of you whom I live on through.Ā

To my brother’s children,

We wondered about how we might be able to eliminate plastics from our day to day routines, and recycled literally everything. We were amazing, you should have seen us. Now and again though, we wondered if these were the right questions.

Dear future generations,

Young people are making a lot of noise and politicians are now listening.

Dear X—, Dear A—,

As with our struggles to eliminate police brutality, as with hate crimes, so it is with climate change – there are actually a lot of people out there who care.

Querida Futuro Yo,

Quiero que puedas decirme que lo hemos logrado, y que el mundo hoy es un poquito mejor porque nosotras pusimos de nuestra parte.

A love letter to my son

I hope this year is a real turning point and by the time you’re a teenager, your life is powered almost entirely by clean energy like solar and wind.

To my Dad,

I hope on this Father’s Day, my 24th birthday, and the rest of days, we remember that the most basic part of life is living happy with the ones we love. Acting every day against climate change will allow us to keep that simple piece of humanity.

Dear future child whatever your name is,

Climate change right now is really bad, I’m writing this during the COP26 conference in Glasgow (which is an hour away) and I’m listening to politicians talking about promises for the future. ā€œIf we fail, future generations will never forgive us.ā€ -Boris Johnson
